Google Palestine site is defaced!

Hackers have successfully attacked, the Palestinian version of the Google search page.

The page describes how the hackers are protesting the legitimacy of terms used in Google Maps, which does not formally display the term “Palestine” on its imagery.

Based on this kind of attack, no data is believed to have been taken, nor any Google servers hacked into.

The attackers appeared to deface the page with a successful DNS hijacking attempt. In doing so, the Google homepage now redirects to a Morocco-based server.

The page, which includes some imagery and a map, states (sic): “uncle google we say hi from palestine to remember you that the country in google map not called israel. its called Palestine.”

The main Google logo image is directly linked to a Google-owned domain. The Google Maps screenshot is hosted by a third-party Arabic image and file sharer, known as GulfUp. Also, users may be prompted to accept a RealPlayer plugin — a Web extension scarcely used nowadays — which is used to play a Rihanna track.
